Five for Friday

I was half way home from school today and remembered I wanted to take some pictures for Five for Friday!  Ugh, I will do my best to explain my week without pictures :)

1. Poetry Unit
We have been working really hard on our poetry unit.  I like to keep it REALLY open.  Its a little rough to get started with a couple of my little friends, but by week 2 they are super stars.  The poems they are writing are so amazing.  Somehow (and I didn't coax them) they started writing poems about each other and they are so sweet.  This one was written by one of my little boys about his friend:

<Student Name>, <Student Name>
handsome as can be
<Student Name>, <Student Name>
kind as can be
<Student Name>, <Student Name>
smart as can be
friendly as can be
<Student Name>, <Student Name>

AWWW!  A lot of their poems are very insightful.  I went to one of my girl's softball games last weekend and bless her little heart, couldn't hit the ball.  She wrote a poem, Why Can't I hit the ball?  It was very cute and meaningful.  I promise I will take a picture of some of their work next week.  We are having the parents come in on Thursday for a Poet's Tea (which sadly will just be cups of water because food is banned in our county :( ), but they are still excited to have their parents come in!

2. American Symbols Math Games
I made these math games, a freebie at my TPT Store!  The kids had fun with them and I am really getting the hang of creating clip art and games!  Please tell me what you think!

3. Testing
I am almost done with testing!  Yay!

4. ABC Countdown Update
This week we had N, O, P, Q and R days!  They were fun.  Monday was No Chair Day.  The kids liked working under their desks for the day.  On Tuesday it was go On a Field Trip Day.  We had a great time in Washington D.C.  We had the best bus driver.  He told the kids that a zebra had escaped from the local zoo and they make a strange sound when they are in distress... so the kids had their ears and eyes peeled looking for this zebra!  A quiet bus :)  Our P Day was Talk Like a Pirate Day... honestly kind of a bust, I'll try something else next year.  Q was Queen day where we addressed all of the females as Queen <Name>.  Today they got to Read a book from home.  It is definitely making these last few days more enjoyable.

5. Crazy Schedule Changes!
Testing has changed our schedule so much!  We went from a 10:45 lunch to a 12:20 lunch. My kiddos did pretty well with the change, but who knows what is in store for next week!

Have a great long weekend :)  I will be spending the weekend celebrating my very best friend's wedding!!!  Yay!
